Mortal Kombat X

Script 1: MORTAL KOMBAT MYTHOLOGIES: RAIDEN

This is the 1st of 7 movie scripts for Mortal Kombat X.  It's ridiculous for me to expect that any of these 7 movies would be filmed and produced, let alone all of them.  However, I just can't help but to WRITE each and every one of them.  So, here they are, up on the Internet!  Fanfiction, basically.

Although, it could become a good comic book!  One single comic book, "Mortal Kombat X", could encompass this entire saga, one story at a time.  Every issue would be able to advance the story further, and basically capture all these different story arcs.  I say 2011 had great comic book remakes for both Flash Gordon and TMNT - both characters being major in past decades, now remade for today.  Why not Mortal Kombat?

I started writing a summary for Mortal Kombat X in 2002, a remake, a re-imagining, of the story of Mortal Kombat.  Not sure where to begin the story, I started at the absolute beginning, and worked forward from there, capturing Mortal Kombat 4's story of Raiden and Shinnok battling at the end of the times of the dinosaurs, since that chronologically happened first.

My biggest source of inspiration for MK Mythologies: Raiden was the 1997 game MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero.  As a youth, playing a couple hours of that game per night on the PlayStation was a great source of delight.  Like Mythologies: Sub-Zero, Mythologies: Raiden delves into many God or Goddess characters, beyond just the one character Raiden.  Like Mythologies: Sub-Zero, I dig even more deeply into that mythological direction.

First, you've got the One Being - 2004's MK Deception.  (He's similar to Pan Ku from the 1995 MK novel.)  Then, you've got the 7 Elder Gods - that is, I believe that, in the beginning of Mortal Kombat's history, Shinnok was merely one of the 7 Elder Gods for a long time, throughout the creation of Earth, and throughout many eras of dinosaurs, before developing an uncaring attitude by the end of the Cretaceous Era.

So I really begin with a creation story, a very different direction for Mortal Kombat.  However, MK is largely based on Chinese mythology, and Chinese mythology does involve stories of creation.  Long before the tournaments, the cast and crew of Mortal Kombat's Gods, Goddesses, and Elder Gods formed our universe, the galaxies, the solar systems, the planets and moons and stars, and our human species.  In a sense, it's like the MK Universe's Book of Genesis - a description of the beginning.

MOST of my story takes place before the dawn of man.  My inspiration comes from Greek mythology - a few stories in particular took place entirely before the beginning of Mankind.  Zeus, son of Cronus and Gaea, would have been eaten by his father if not for his mother's plan to save him by feeding Cronus a stone decoy and letting Zeus be raised on the island of Crete, surrounded by crickets.  (More inspiration from that can be found in Script 2, with Shao Kahn growing up on an island.)  There's also the pit Tartarus.  The Titans.  Zeus' battles with Typhoon and Echidna - this is the story of how the volcano was created (mountain + Echidna = volcano).  Lots of things happened before human beings came to exist, in a few of the Greek stories, and that is the direction I take here.

I also work in the Water God and Fire God from MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero, and I give them the names Aegaen and Hephaestus (after Greek Gods).  I looked up lists of all the mythological Water Gods throughout human history, and all the Fire Gods, and those two names seemed to work the best.  Aegaen is the name closest to the word "ocean", or O'Shinn, my older brother Justin's name for him.

I replace MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero's Earth God with Greek Goddess Gaia - also referenced in the MK novel, spelled as Gaea.  In my version, Gaia is not necessarily shown the Greek way - a face over the hills - but is a Chinese-looking Goddess wearing all green, so she is contained in a body, but can also connect with and control nature.  (Kind of like the "Mother Nature" character in "Happily Ever After", this 1993 cartoon movie I loved in 1st grade.  Ed Asner played the voice of Scowl the Owl in this movie.)  However, the Earth God, as shown in MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero, is not completely gone, but is shown as a Rock Titan, one of the children of Gaia, and is now connected to the phenomenon of Stonehenge.

The four temples of elements, from Mythologies: Sub-Zero, have now been reduced to just one, the Fire Temple, guarded by the Fire God, who guards Shinnok's amulet.  That is after the other Elder Gods banish Shinnok, after Raiden's battles with Shinnok.

I also mention Abacus and Zaggot as the Gods of Order and Chaos, and they are from the 90's MK comics.

T'ien is based on a Chinese God described in the 1995 MK novel, but now he is the God of Outer Space.  In my version, his body is basically outer space, hence the "unthinkable, unknowable to mortals" form.

Some brand-new additions:

- Ra, Egyptian Sun God.  (I always kinda liked Ra.)

- Venus, Roman Goddess of Beauty (equivalent to the Greeks' Aphrodite).

- Greek Goddess Theia, Goddess of Light.

- Greek Goddess Khione, Goddess of Ice.

- An ENTIRELY new Goddess is Luna, Goddess of the Moon.

I also use the character Baphomet, a deleted character from MK: Deadly Alliance.

Baphomet - Deleted Character from MK: Deadly Alliance

He can be seen in the Krypts of MK: Deadly Alliance and Deception.  He was a deleted character.  He would have been an Elder Demon.

In my version, Baphomet, who still appears the same way he appeared in his concept art, is now the master and owner of the NetherЯealm.  My new story for Baphomet is that he was originally the God of Darkness, who rebelled against the Elder Gods and tried to overthrow them, only to be banished to the NetherЯealm, which he became the owner of.

So, that's Raiden, Fujin, Shinnok, Water God Aegaen, Fire God Hephaestus, Gaia, the Rock Titan, and Baphomet as the main characters.

Mortal Kombat (2011), or MK9, had a Female Elder God character, who looked kind of like Frost.  I name this character Izanami, after Japanese Shinto Goddess Izanami-no-mikoto, and I make her the mother of Raiden.  In keeping with MK: Annihilation, Shinnok is the father of Raiden (and later, Shao Kahn as well).

Once again, Mortal Kombat: the Novel, by Jeff Rovin, in 1995, had referenced Greek Goddess Gaea, T'ien, Izanami-no-mikoto and Izanagi-no-mikoto, and a boatload of other things.

Keep in mind, also, that in Japanese Shinto, Raijin and Fujin are friends.  I thought that was interesting to learn about.  So my decision to pair Raiden and Fujin together, since 2002, was not a cheap stunt after all, but I learned in 2014 that it already matches Japanese Shinto correctly.

But it turns out that in Japanese Shinto, Fujin is a terrifying goblin-like being, a bringer of storms.  He reaches into his bag of storms and throws them at you.

Fujin - God of Wind (Shinto)

        Raijin                                Fujin

Actual Shinto.  No, Japanese mythology is not the same as what you see in Mortal Kombat.  There is no Shinnok in Shinto, nor a Dragon King.
MK really is its own mythology.

In a moment that would feel like Batman Begins, imagine Raiden and Fujin taking a moment to look at how the humans of Earth represent them in their artwork, and them seeing this.  You know, in an effort to bring Mortal Kombat a step closer to true Shinto.

I guess this means it was correct in MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero to show him as an aggressive, scary opponent.  The red cape may be a little bit like some of Fujin's uses of the Bag of Storms.

Raijin and Fujin were friends in Japanese Shinto.  Wait a minute!  That can't be!  I thought Raiden was from China?  My guess is that certain things are adopted from one country to another - the same way a man in China trained with the Lin Kuei and then traveled back to Japan to bring its secrets over there.

Also from Shinto is Izanami-no-mikoto, who, along with Izanagi-no-mikoto, created all the islands on the Earth.

        Izanami-no-mikoto
and Izanagi-no-mikoto
Authentic Chinese Art

These two dieties, one male and one female, created all the islands in the world.  For you see, Japan is an island, separated from the rest of Asia.  Ireland, similarly, is an island separated from Europe.  But Europe and Asia are connected together, the same as the USA and Canada and Mexico.  Anyway, Izanami-no-mikoto AND Izanagi-no-mikoto come from Japanese Shinto.

Who would have thought that my concept of Shinnok and Izanami being Elder Gods seen by Raiden in a transparent form against the clouds is basically largely correct to Japanese Shinto?

And, by the way, that silhouette of Raiden is based on a photo of a Halloween costume.

After READING about Izanami and Izanagi, I decided to write the name into Mortal Kombat, and to make my comic strip the way it looked (using the visuals of Shinnok and Frost, whose hair was edited to become more gray, and making both transparent against a photo of the clouds that I took in my own backyard with my cell phone).  When I looked up pictures of Izanami-no-mikoto, I learned that my comic strip's depiction of two dieties in the clouds was already largely correct to Japanese Shinto.  I just don't include Izanagi-no-mikoto.  I have Shinnok as the husband of Izanami instead.

Actual Shinto has a horribly depressing story behind Izanami and Izanagi-no-mikoto.  They were like a God and Goddess sent by dieties equivalent to MK's Elder Gods, to create all the islands of the Earth.  Later, they would spin around two poles, but the female greeted the male first, and afterward they had bad luck by having deformed demon children.  Their authority figures told them that the woman should not have greeted the man first.  So they tried it again, this time with the man greeting the woman first, and they had better luck making kids.

Izanami-no-mikoto died in childbirth with their last child, that of fire.  What the!!!!!  How many similarities am I gonna find with my story and Japanese Shinto?  It's getting a little out of hand!

Anyway, Izanagi-no-mikoto descends into the realm of darkness and dead . . . hey, this is interesting, comparing it in my head to MK's NetherЯealm . . . only to find that she is rotten, with maggots crawling through her once beautiful body, and she has already eaten from the fruit of the dead world, and has become one with it.  So he leaves without her, and she is left alone.  So, now you see what I mean about how this story is horribly depressing?  You see it now?  I don't get into any of that detail with my depiction of Izanami.  I simply include Izanami as the Mother of Raiden.

There's got to be some way for Izanami-no-mikoto to return to a clean form!  It just has to be possible.  Or at send a time travel message backward telling Izanami-no-mikoto not to eat from the fruit.  Well, anyway.

Izanami-no-mikoto and Izanagi-no-mikoto were also both mentioned in Jeff Rovin's 1995 MK novel.

In MK9, the Elder Gods appear in an enormous form of blue energy.  This is the version I stick to for the appearance of the Elder Gods.

MK9 seems to have a female Elder God.  I say, why not name her Izanami
(and make her the mother of Raiden).

MK9's Female Elder God - the one I thought looked like Frost - is the character to whom I have given the name Izanami.

I show Shinnok as one of these Elder Gods, in the original good old days before Shinnok's banishment, but, as shown in MK Armageddon, he was stripped of his title of Elder God and left in a smaller form to be a damned prisoner of the NetherЯealm.

So, Izanami is a new character for Mortal Kombat, or at least a new name for MK9's Female Elder God, now established as Raiden's mother.

Cavemen Enngok and Rawa are also brand-new characters.

FADE IN:

INT. EMPTY SPACE

Nothing exists.

NARRATION

In the beginning, nothing existed,

but the One Being.

The green form of the One Being

unfolds in the nothingness.

NARRATION

It sat still for much time, contemplating its

own existence.  When it grew bored of

existing, the One Being split itself into seven

fragments . . . and became the Elder Gods.

The green One Being splits off into

7 blue Elder Gods, who fly around

separately from one another.

As they fly away, the white remains of

the One Being expand to become the Universe.

NARRATION

The rest of the One Being’s remains unfolded to

become the Universe.

Auniverse of energy unravels and

expands in all directions, continuously.

We FLY INTO a white cloud in space,

to enter its galaxy.

NARRATION

The One Being was no longer alive, as it

had become the 7 Elder Gods.

7 figures of pure blue energy float through space,

in the shape of a human embryo that slowly rises

up to a standing position.

NARRATION

The Elder Gods roamed through the marvelous

space that the One Being had provided them.

The One Being was the source of everything.

Now, the Elder Gods had until the end of Time

to enjoy their existence in the Universe . . . the

galaxies . . . the solar systems . . . the many stars

that they formed, the lights to fill the space, to

amuse themselves.

The 7 Elder Gods all circle around a new star,

which burns fire and magma all over.

IZANAMI

These are the most beautiful creations

we have ever seen.

SHINNOK

These are the only creations

we have ever seen.  Come!  Let us fly.

Let us Create some more things!

Onward, they fly, through the newly-

formed empty space, to create majestic things.

Shinnok makes yellow energy appear in

space, and it doesn’t stop cackling until

it takes form as a solid object: an

enormous rock, which begins to grow

darker in color until it is brown.

SHINNOK

Look!  Look at this!  Look at what

I just created!

IZANAMI

Marvelous.  We can all do that, Shinnok.

Moving on.

Everyone else leaves, and Shinnok feels sad.

Shinnok leaves, and the rock floats on, through space.

NARRATION

Never again would the One Being exist the way

it once had.  But it lived on in all 7 of them.

It lived on in every inch of the Universe.

INT. SPACE - EARTH’S SOLAR SYSTEM - BILLIONS OF YEARS LATER

Shinnok helps to form a Sun that

burns bright yellow.

NARRATION

Enough years passed that the Elder Gods

felt ready to create worlds of living people.

So far, all the planets in space had been

empty, and cold, and impossible to sustain

its own native life.  But those empty planets

were there for a reason.  They could be

worked, until they would become useful.

Elder Gods Shinnok and Izanami

fly together through space.

A new being of energy flies out of them,

drifting through space to slowly take form,

an embryo unfolding until it becomes a

child.  Many new beings of energy are being

made by the two Elder Gods at once.

NARRATION

The Elder Gods created smaller forms of

life - Gods and Goddesses - to do their

work in making Earth ready for life.

FADE TO: BLACK.

Commence a TWO-WAY SPLIT-SCREEN VIEW.

In the left half: Theia.  In the right half: Baphomet.

NARRATION

Theia: Goddess of Light.

(Blonde Goddess, wearing all white and light gray.)

Baphomet: God of Darkness.

(He’s wearing two brown sashes in an X over

his chest, brown pants, and a black hood.)

T’ien: God of Outer Space.  (His body: outer space.)

Gaia: Goddess of Earth, Plant Life, and Nature.

(A green woman wearing a black and green dress,

with long dark green hair.)

Ra: God of the Sun.  (He wears a robe of yellow,

white, and blue.  Has the head of a hawk.)

Luna: Goddess of the Moon.  (Brown-haired

Goddess.  Wears dark gray.)

Fujin: God of Wind, Oxygen, and Gravity.

(His hair is long and flowing white.  He holds,

at all times, the brown Bag of Storms.)

Aegaen: God of Water and the Oceans.

(His body: like a male human, made of water,

minus reproductive organs.)

Hephaestus: God of Fire.

(Like a human monk perpetually on fire.)

Khione: Goddess of Ice.  (Dressed in white,

light blue, and dark blue, wearing a white

armor-like tiara over her head.)

Raiden: God of Thunder, Lightning, and Storms.

(Dressed in white garments.  No hat.)

Venus: Goddess of Beauty and Love.

(Sexy Goddess with long, flowing hair,

wearing green and yellow.)

Abacus: God of Order.  (White hair

and beard, looking somewhat like Zeus,

wearing all black from neck to toe.)

Zaggot: God of Chaos.  (Has a long green

beard.  Body is thin and frail.  Wears a

pointy purple hat, matching all purple attire.)

FADE TO: BLACK.

INT. OUTER SPACE - LOOKING AT EARTH

Theia, Baphomet, T’ien, Gaia, Ra, Luna,

Fujin, Aegaen, Hephaestus, Khione, Raiden,

Venus, Abacus, and Zaggot are all flying around

together in outer space.

NARRATION

These Gods and Goddesses, and many others,

would be necessary in shaping Earth to the

orders of the Elder Gods.

Baphomet and Theia fly away from the others,

flying right at Earth’s atmosphere.

NARRATION

Baphomet was the designated master of Darkness,

while Theia was the master of Light.  Both maintained

their jobs in keeping an equal balance for the Earth realm.

INT. EARTH - EARLY STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT

Water God Aegaen, whose entire body is

ocean-blue, outstretches his hands and

unleashes water from them.

NARRATION

Aegaen formed the oceans of water,

which covered two-thirds of the world.

Yet one molecule of oxygen was

necessary to create one molecule

of water; so Aegaen needed to work

together with Fujin, God of Wind and

Oxygen, to get his work done.

Fujin and Aegaen stand side-by-side

as they examine the new body of water

that Aegaen has created.

For a short time, they stand still,

admiring their work.

Fujin outstretches his hands and causes a

small whirlwind that moves the water around.

Next to them, the Fire God, Hephaestus, sits

on the air, next to the Earth Goddess, Gaia.

HEPHAESTUS

Earth is a lot of fun!

I’ve been having a lot of fun.

GAIA

Don’t have too much fun.

Fire is very destructive to

the rest of the elements.

Fujin, Aegaen, Gaia, and Hephaestus

(Wind, Water, Earth, and Fire)

float around together in a ring, over

the new body of water.

GAIA

Marvelous.  Look at it.  Water.

FUJIN

With no disrespect to the water, Aegaen:

I have a hard time seeing how this is necessary

to create life on Earth.

GAIA

This water will be necessary for life.

The Elder Gods have said so.

We will see, once it is done.

FUJIN

I suppose you’re right, Gaia.

INT. SPACE - LOOKING AT EARTH

From space, we see brown planet Earth.

Oceans of blue water come gushing down over

dry land, all across the Earth.

The blue is beginning to spread, from many

individual spots across the globe, until, finally,

two bodies of water, many miles apart, connect

together.

Finally, the entire world is flooded.

We very quickly FLY TO the middle of

the ocean - where Aegaen stands.  We slowly

LOWER DOWN to a grounded angle of

Aegaen floating over the water.

With both hands on his hips, he smiles,

satisfied with his work.

Hephaestus blasts fire at the ocean,

causing a small disruption, a circle of

air in which the water ceases to exist,

and around which water is displaced.

Hephaestus blasts the fire with higher pressure.

AEGAEN
WILL YOU STOP THAT!

HEPHAESTUS

Now, now.  Fire is necessary to create life, too.

AEGAEN

Not in excess.

INT. EARTH - SKY - LATER

Up in the clouds, Shinnok and Izanami,

enormous blue Elder Gods, can be seen

in a transparent form against the sky.

RAIDEN

Mother!  Father!

He lowers his head and bows to them.

SHINNOK

We have much need for you today, Raiden.

RAIDEN

You do?

IZANAMI

Yes.  Today, you will spark the oceans

with your lightning.

RAIDEN

. . . I . . . see.  What would that do?

. . . I don’t understand what that would do.

IZANAMI

Do not question us, Raiden!

SHINNOK

As Elder Gods, our will is right.

RAIDEN

. . . Yes.  Sorry, Father.  Sorry, Mother.

IZANAMI

Now, travel to the waters of the ocean.

Stop at the surface.

Raiden nods his head, and flies away,

through the air, to soar down to the

ground below.

With both hands outstretched ahead of him,

Raiden, wearing an outfit of all white cloth,

flies quickly to where the Elders have commanded.

RAIDEN

Will I need to meet with Aegaen?

Will I need to work together with him?

The Elders remain still in their

position in the clouds.

IZANAMI

Never mind the Water God right now, Raiden.

Focus on what we are telling you to do!

RAIDEN

Yes.  Sorry, Mother.

Raiden flies on some more.  Finally,

he slows down, and begins to look

all around him to see nothing but

the water of the oceans on all sides

of him.  Gradually, he comes to a stop,

in a standing position in mid-air,

just above the water’s surface.

SHINNOK

This is far enough, son.

IZANAMI

Now . . . strike the ocean with your lightning!

Raiden thinks about it.

He looks around again.

He reaches his hand out, then

pulls it back to himself.

He’s still not quite sure.

IZANAMI

Are you refusing us?

RAIDEN
No.

He outstretches his right hand,

and begins to generate electricity.

Outstretching both hands, he commands

lightning to strike the oceans.

KRA-KOOOOOM!!! comes the enormous

sound of lightning, before anything was

alive in the Earth.

RAIDEN

Ha ha!  Ha haaa ha!

It’s raining heavily now, where it was not

mere seconds earlier.  Raiden flies around

and strikes more lightning.  Kra-koooom!!

Kra-koooom!!  He’s enjoying himself now.

IZANAMI
You have done enough, Raiden . . .

SHINNOK

. . . you may stop now, and rest, if you wish.

Raiden flies around a little more, in a

circular path, enjoying himself.

One more: Kra-kooooom!!

Raiden smiles.

IZANAMI

Remember that your power is not

to be used whimsically, Raiden.

SHINNOK

Also do not forget that us Elder Gods are the

authority . . . and YOU are to listen to US.

RAIDEN

I . . . I understand.

Shinnok and Izanami begin to disappear.

RAIDEN

I have done enough for today.

Raiden flies away.

The Sun begins to set, leaving the Earth in darkness.

EXT. OCEAN - FROM ABOVE

The ocean goes on for countless miles.

INT. OCEAN - UNDERWATER

Nothing but water, and bubbles of air

continuously rising up to the water’s surface.

We FOCUS IN to a more microscopic level,

to see the formation of the single-celled organism.

It kicks.  It thrashes.  It lives.

Because of Raiden’s spark.

INT. EARTH - ABOVE THE OCEAN

The 14 Gods and Goddesses are

gathered together in the air,

above the water.

Shinnok’s enormous, transparent image

can be seen against the clouds.

SHINNOK

I am proud of you all.  But there

will be more work left to do, after

Izanami creates land.

FUJIN

Land already exists, underneath the water.

SHINNOK

True - but that is just the core ground.

New land will be made - islands,

surrounded by water.

A transparent image overlaps the clouds -

Earth, with one enormous brown landmass

continent, surrounded by water.

The projected image fades away.

Izanami steps forth from the clouds,

and takes on a more solid form,

no longer appearing blue.  She

grips an enormous wooden pole.

We LOOK DOWN the giant wooden instrument,

thousands of feet down, to see the water below.

Izanami gets started stirring the water of the

Earth’s oceans.  It is a difficult task, at first.

The wooden instrument does not quickly

move through the water.  It is a great chore to

finish the first rotation of the stick.  But it

picks up speed, and before long, after a few

rotations, Izanami picks up the stick to find

many drops of water falling down from it.

We ZOOM IN to the bottom end of the

enormous wooden stick - with many

drops of water falling down from it.

We LOOK DOWN, to see where the droplets

are landing: the water that covers the world.

Everywhere that a water droplet lands

grows into an island.  The land from underneath

the ocean is rising up.

Many islands are forming, in a row.  They are so close

together that they become connected, with small cracks

in between, to finally form the one gigantic landmass

supercontinent that Shinnok had earlier projected.

Although the continent appears to be the only one on

Earth, there are also many separate islands, having resulted

from Izanami’s drops of water.

Finally, brown land exists on Earth,

in addition to the oceans.

INT. EARTH - GROUND-LEVEL

Gaia walks about over the brown dirt ground.

Fujin flies beside her.

FUJIN

We have Aegaen’s water.  We have Izanami’s islands.

We have Raiden’s spark of lightning.  What more is

needed?

GAIA

The Elder Gods have a very complex plan,

Fujin.  The water is not enough.  The land

is not enough.  Next, plant life will cover the land.

FUJIN

Plant life?

GAIA
Observe.

One small green plant is growing in the brown dirt.

At a very close level, we see the four-inch plant:

a green flower, very early in its lifetime.

FUJIN

This?  This is the plant life?

Fujin takes a step closer.  Gaia stops him.

GAIA

No!  STOP!  That is a newly-formed plant.

It’s very young in its life.  These will cover

the lands, in time.

FUJIN

Why?  Why are these plants so necessary?

GAIA

Why must you question things so much?

These plants require water to live.

That is why the water, earlier, was so

important to create.  These plants need

water to continue living.  Without water,

in a short time, they will die.

FUJIN

Then, you need Aegaen.

GAIA

Yes.  My plants need water.

FUJIN

And Aegaen needs me.  His water is made

from two elements, and one of those two is

oxygen - the same oxygen that makes my wind.

He eyes Earth’s first plant again.

FUJIN

Hmm.  There will be more of these plants?

GAIA

They won’t all be so small.  Just watch.

INT. EARTH - LOOKING DOWN AT THE GROUND FROM ABOVE - EVENING

As the Sun begins to leave for the day,

thousands of green plants are beginning

to grow.

Quickly, we watch several rotations of

the Sun around the Earth.  5 seconds of

light.  5 seconds of darkness.  Over and over.

In a matter of days, plant life grows rampantly

on Earth.  Within a week, the brown dirt

is mostly covered in green.

INT. EDGE OF THE ONE LANDMASS CONTINENT - DAYTIME

Raiden, Fujin, and Aegaen stand together

in the air, looking at the edge of the landmass

continent.

RAIDEN

They say that my sparks created forms of life.

The elements mix together - the same way that

water is formed, from hydrogen and oxygen -

my sparks created things, yet I don’t see much

activity yet.

FUJIN

There are many steps needed.  Water.  Clouds.

Land.  Plant life.  More water.

So the single-celled organisms bloomed.

Ocean creatures.  Focus on life in the ocean.

Creatures in the air.

Creatures on the land.

The Gods and Goddesses lived in harmony on Earth.  Because Raiden had given the spark to create the first forms of life, he was appointed the protector and guardian of all life on Earth.

Baphomet, God of Darkness, goes against the Elder Gods.  He attempts to overthrow them.

They cast Baphomet out into the NetherЯealm, a new realm of suffering.  Baphomet remains trapped here, but in time, he becomes the master and owner of the NetherЯealm.

Raiden and Fujin were friends.  They watched as the animals ran around.  They were no longer alone, the only kind of living things on Earth.  Now they were surrounded by younger, smaller animals.  But they came to care much for these animals.

Mesozoic Era.

Triassic Era.

Jurassic Era.

Cretaceous Era.  Velociraptors.

Throughout all these time periods . . . at least 4 pages per period, so, at least 20 pages dedicated to dinosaurs . . . the Elder Gods no longer care about anything.

RAIDEN

Father!  I must speak with you.

SHINNOK

Oh.  It’s you.  What do YOU want?

So Raiden realizes that nobody cares anymore.  He takes it upon himself to stop the Great Flood of Destruction that will rain upon Earth.  Shinnok has sent enormous rocks from space to crash into the Earth realm and wipe it all out.

Raiden flies up into the air.  He flies at the rocks.  He blasts the rocks with lightning.  He breaks them apart into several pieces.  But they continue to fall to the world below.

Raiden tries to stop the meteor storms, but fails, and the dinosaurs are all killed.

Raiden flies at Shinnok to stop him.

SHINNOK

Stop this, son!  I do not want to remember you this weak!

RAIDEN

It is not weak to value human life!

He flies at Shinnok some more, swinging

a punch toward him, but Shinnok vanishes

out of sight, and reappears on the other side

of Raiden.

SHINNOK

Excuse me?  I am one of the Elder Gods.

YOU are just a Thunder God.

RAIDEN

Please, Father.  Try to understand,

all animals should live their time!

SHINNOK

Oh, you care too much about these things.

You are my weakest creation of all.

Shinnok spins around and kicks Raiden,

with both feet, away.

Raiden falls through the air.

INT. EARTH - NEAR THE MOUNTAINS - SOON

From a far distance, we see Raiden’s body

fly through the air, to finally land on a mountain,

shattering the top 1/10th of it off, to fall down the

rest of the mountainside.

ZOOM IN to Raiden, still flying through the air,

having been thrown, but he slowly manages to turn

his body around and fly against the direction of his

falling, slowly reversing his flight.  He flies on!

He looks down, and sees the mountain’s sliced

fragment fall.  So Raiden flies, headfirst,

toward the ground, catching up with the fragment.

In seconds, he flies underneath it, then grabs it

with both hands, and flies it toward the sky.

Soon enough, he throws the mountain’s

fragment right at Shinnok.

The mountain piece strikes the Elder God,

sending him back.  But he slows down his

fall to a still, in the air.

SHINNOK

Was that supposed to destroy me?

RAIDEN

One last time.  Stop trying to wipe out the world!

SHINNOK

You stop trying to tell me what to do!

They battle some more.  Their battle goes on

for another 10 seconds, as we slowly ROTATE

AROUND the two beings.  Shinnok, the bigger

of the two, seems to clearly be winning, but

Raiden refuses to give up hope.

Shinnok’s hands glow bright yellow, and

he throws a small Sun at Raiden.

The Sun strikes into Raiden, and he

is knocked backward through the air,

but again he will not give up hope, and

he comes back at Shinnok with a blast

of lightning.

RAIDEN

I am sorry to do this.  But I am still

the protector of all life on Earth!

Shinnok raises both hands, summoning

more yellow energy.  A high-pitched

whistling sound can be heard.

Two enormous hands of bone rise up

from a glow of yellow energy, and clap

around Raiden.

Now he’s trapped in two giant hands of bone.

He struggles for a moment, but he can’t seem

to break free.

Shinnok is grinning.  Clearly, the willpower of

an Elder God exceeds that of a Thunder God.

RAIDEN
What are you doing?

SHINNOK

I can’t have you become a nuisance, Thunder God.

RAIDEN

I am the protector and guardian of all life on Earth.

So I must fulfill my role!

SHINNOK

The mortals have reached the end of their time,

as I have decreed it.

Six blue figures begin to descend from

the clouds in Earth realm.

Raiden looks up, in shock and awe,

remembering the rest of the authorities.

Shinnok is only one of the 7 Elder Gods,

and the other 6 are now here, arranged in

a ring formation, slowly descending toward

the ground to surround him.

SHINNOK

What’s happening?

RAIDEN
It looks like . . . the other Elder Gods . . . are here.

The six enormous blue Elder Gods land on the ground,

and lose both their gigantic size and blue color.

ELDER GOD 1

Stop right there!

ELDER GOD 2

Freeze, Shinnok!

SHINNOK

So.  You have come.  Good.  I am not the

most powerful being, after all.  I am not.

I am only one of seven Elder Gods - and all

seven of us, together, we are the One Being.

Now the rest of you are here.  Now the One

Being can be re-awakened.

ELDER 1

We have no wish to re-awaken the One Being.

ELDER 2

Nor do we wish to see all life on Earth wiped away.

Raiden raises a good point.  All life is to be valued!

SHINNOK

Bah!  What foolishness I’m listening to!

Have you all grown so soft and weak?  Do you

all weep for days when the Earth’s grass is cut?

ELDER GOD 1

Our vote has been cast.  You are hereby

under arrest, for damaging life on Earth.

SHINNOK

No!  This is madness!  I am an Elder God!

ELDER GOD 2

Maybe so - but the rest of us Elders

wish to keep the intelligent life on Earth.

The other six hold out their hands, and

begin a process of draining white energy

from Shinnok.

The Elder God convulses.

SHINNOK

Madness!  Madness!  What is happening to me?

ELDER GOD 1

We are hereby reclaiming your Essence,

your very living energy.

Shinnok is already beginning to shrink down in size.

The other 6 Elder Gods are draining him of his

Essence at once.

SHINNOK

You cannot reduce me to nothing!

ELDER GOD 2

We will merely shrink you down to a lesser size.

SHINNOK

You all know you will not erase or

destroy the energy of my Essence.

ELDER GOD 3

Maybe not - but we will separate it from you.

Elder God 3 holds up a golden amulet.

ELDER GOD 3

We created this amulet to store your Essence.

The white energy begins to flow, from Shinnok,

through the other Elder Gods, and ultimately

into the new golden amulet.

ELDER GOD 2

With your Essence removed, you will be sent

to the same place as Baphomet: the NetherЯealm.

SHINNOK

No!  Baphomet is a lower God of Darkness.

I am not to be sent to the same place as him!

ELDER GOD 1

Shinnok: it is not up to you anymore.

The draining process is done.  Shinnok

is now as small as a mortal man, with all

the blue glow of an Elder God gone.  The

golden amulet can fit in a human’s hands.

SHINNOK

That amulet . . .

ELDER GOD 4

We hereby cast you out, Shinnok . . .

into the NetherЯealm!

Two Elder Gods open up an orange portal,

directly to the NetherЯealm.

SHINNOK

No.  Nooo!

Two other Elder Gods escort Shinnok,

by the arms, up into the air and into

the orange portal.

SHINNOK
Nooo!  NOOOOOO!

His voice becomes a dying echo as

the orange portal closes.

The golden amulet falls to the floor.

This one amulet contains the Essence

of an Elder God.

INT. EARTH REALM - SKY

The Elder Gods speak to Hephaestus,

the Fire God.

ELDER GOD 1

Hephaestus.  We have much need for you

now.  We have lost an Elder God - Shinnok

has been banished to the NetherЯealm for

all eternity.

ELDER GOD 2

His Essence is contained in an amulet.

We need you to guard this amulet, and

make sure no living thing gets it hands on it.

HEPHAESTUS

What would touch this amulet?

ELDER GOD 3

Maybe not many things, now . . . but, in time,

the new animals, the human beings, will rise.

You must remain the guardian of the amulet.

HEPHAESTUS

I see.  I will do this, Elders!

INT. EARTH - MOUNTAINSIDE

A mountain stands on the Earth’s ground.

We slowly FLY CLOSER to the mountain’s top.

A structure has been put in place here by

the Elder Gods: a temple, made of natural

elements.

We FLY CLOSER to the temple’s front door.

INT. FIRE GOD’S TEMPLE

A natural walkway is surrounded on

both sides by constant blasts of fire.

We FLOAT OVER the temple’s floor.

Some of the floors are collapsible,

creating a trap for anyone who might

get through this temple, and get close

to the amulet.

INT. FIRE TEMPLE - AMULET ROOM

CUT TO - Shinnok’s golden amulet,

glowing with golden light.

We PULL BACK to see where it is.

It floats over a small circle of floor.  Attached

to this small circle of floor is a staircase,

leading downward, to a bridge walkway

proceeding north and south, to the staircase’s

east, everything surrounded by flames that

continuously fire upward.

CUT TO a pit of fire.

We LOOK UP, to reveal the Fire God,

floating near the amulet.

He is smiling.  Though he doesn’t

touch the amulet, he enjoys his

job of guarding it.

Another burst of fire comes up from the pits.

NARRATION

The Fire God, Hephaestus, remained the guardian

of the amulet.  Nobody would ever be allowed to

get their hands on it.

INT. EARTH - NEAR THE MOUNTAINS

Fujin flies quickly, in the areas that are heavy

with wind, near the mountains.

In the clouds, the enormous face of an

Elder God begins to form.

ELDER GOD

Fujin!  Come quickly to the sky.

FUJIN

Yes, Elder.

Fujin begins to rise up into the air, as

the face in the clouds dissipates into

a normal cloud that floats along.

INT. EARTH - SKY

Fujin stays hovering in the air,

surrounded by the enormous blue

figures of the 6 Elder Gods.

ELDER GOD 1

Fujin.  The battles between Raiden and Shinnok

have indeed leveled the world.

ELDER GOD 2

The animals need a new home to live in.

ELDER GOD 3

We have decided that they will go to Zaterra.

You must lead them on this journey, Fujin.

FUJIN
Zaterra?  What is Zaterra?

ELDER GOD 4

There are many planets out there not being used

for anything.  We will terraform one of these worlds,

and make it suitable for life, the same as Earth realm.

That world will become Zaterra.

FUJIN

I see.  And . . . how am I to lead

the dinosaurs to this other world?

ELDER GOD 1

You must open a portal to the Nexus of Realms.

Once there, locate Zaterra.  Establish portals between

Zaterra and Earth that bypass the Nexus entirely.

Lead the animals on their journey to the new world.

FUJIN

. . . Could you repeat some of that?

INT. EARTH - GREEN FIELDS - SOON

In an area of green, with a large bubble of

Earthly destruction visible in the far

distance, Fujin stands still, and focuses.

Using both hands, he manipulates energy,

until pink energy begins to cackle between

his hands.  When he lets go, the pink energy

continues to cackle, and grows into a full-sized

portal, a gateway to another place.

Fujin takes a step back, then gracefully flies

forward, his body slowly rising in height, his

white hair flowing around in the wind.

Soon, he has entered the flat, pink, round

portal.  After a few seconds, it closes itself

down to a small cackle of energy, and then

it is gone, and the after-glow of pink all

around the area dies down.

INT. NEXUS OF REALMS - SOON

Fujin steps out of a blue portal, and into the

house of gateways known as the Nexus of Realms.

FUJIN

I am here.  Hmm . . . interesting.

Now he eyes the portal to Earth, from outside Earth.

He looks all around himself.

An orange portal provides the gateway to the

NetherЯealm.  A white portal leads to Edenia.

A dark green portal leads to Zaterra.

Fujin nods his head.  He walks toward the

dark green portal, and, without hesitation,

he floats through the air and into the gateway.

INT. ZATERRA - GROUD-LEVEL - SOON

“Zaterra”

In a planet that looks just like Earth, not much

is happening, except for the loud chirping

of countless numbers of insects and birds,

and the grass blowing around in the wind.

The area begins to be illuminated with pink

light as pink energy cackles and hisses, and

grows into a large portal.  Fujin, God of Wind,

steps out, and walks ahead a few steps as he

lands on the green grass ground.

FUJIN

So.  This is Zaterra.

He looks all around himself.  Mountains can

be seen in the distance.  Trees tower up over

his head.  Behind him, the portal closes

down to nothing.

Fujin rises up into the air, both hands

comfortably by his sides, as he is making

the wind propel him upward.

Now he gets to see all the sights and sounds

of Zaterra.  It is just like Earth - how beautiful

that planet had been at its starting point, before

it became poisoned, destroyed.  Here, in Zaterra,

life has a fresh new chance again.

Fujin outstretches both hands high up toward

the sky, and creates a pink portal above his

head, so that he will rise right into it.

We FLY INTO THE PORTAL WITH HIM.

Once we get through the thin “wall” of pink

energy, we fly very quickly through miles of

a space-wormhole.

A green circle can be seen at the end of the ride.

Fujin flies wildly, always straight ahead, also

flying up, then left, then down, then right, in a

curving path, to finally land in the green circle

at the end.

INT. EARTH REALM - GROUND-LEVEL

The green circle has grown to a full worldly

view of the green grass and the blue sky

overhead.

The cloud of destruction can still be seen

in the far distance.  Now that he’s back in

Earth realm, Fujin notices that the cloud is

much closer to his present spot than before,

as it has grown in size since earlier.

FUJIN

Now for the easy part.

Using both hands, he manipulates pink energy

until he creates a new portal.  After he lets go

with his hands, the portal finishes growing to

full height, and it stays open for about one minute,

constantly emitting the sound of a high-pitched hum.

FUJIN

Now for the hard part.

Fujin turns around, and looks for the animals

that inhabit Earth realm.

He walks a few steps, but doesn’t find any

living things.  So he rises up into the air, with

the wind, and sees a greater range of view.

As we FOLLOW FUJIN, the ground below

us grows from being a few feet away to being

hundreds of feet far.

Now he finds many animals.  So he flies

over toward an area more heavily populated

with them.

Slowly, he descends to the ground,

surrounded by Velociraptors.

FUJIN

Quickly, animals!  Come with me - to safety!

Fujin takes one step toward the Velociraptors.

They all run away from him.

FUJIN

Come on, now.  Please understand.

I need to do this, for your safety.

He advances toward more Velociraptors,

but again, they run away from him.

FUJIN

(sigh) Very well.  I guess it

has come to this.

Fujin flies through the air, toward

one Velociraptor.

Finally, he grabs the animal by

its sides, then continues to fly

up into the air.

The Velociraptor screams, and thrashes

all its limbs, and in seconds chooses to

bite Fujin on the arm.

Not much happens.  So the Raptor

bites him a second time.

Still, no reaction.  A third bite, while the

Raptor looks left, and right, at Fujin’s head.

However, the Raptor now finds that its

enemy cannot be beaten with a bite, so

now the dinosaur stops and thinks twice.

Together, the two fly through the air,

straight into the pink portal.

INT. ZATERRA - SOON

Just as fast as he flew into the portal,

Fujin flies out the other end, with the

Velociraptor in his arms.

After the flight has slowed down to

a fair walking speed, he lets go of

the animal, who lands harshly and

rolls around for a bit.

FUJIN

There.  We are in your new home -

The Raptor bites Fujin again.

FUJIN

STOP THAT!

Fujin raises both hands in the air,

and causes an upward blast of

wind from the ground underneath

the Velociraptor.

In seconds, the Raptor is trapped high

up in the air.  The wind is invisible, but

a little bit of dirt and debris makes it

visible.

FUJIN

Now.

Fujin lowers his hands, and the wind

gently lessens, until the Velociraptor

is on the ground again.

FUJIN

I’m sorry that I had to do all this,

but otherwise, you would have died.

Earth realm is no longer suitable for

life.  It has become ruined.

The Velociraptor bites Fujin one more time.

FUJIN

It’s like talking to a rock.

Fujin leaves, through the same portal through

which he had entered.

At first, the Raptor is startled, taking a

step back, but, once it sees that Fujin

is gone, it lets out a loud sound of sadness.

The Raptor looks at the pink portal.

Fascinating.  The Raptor takes a few

steps closer to it.

This pink portal is nothing the Raptor

has ever seen.  A first-time sight.  So

he advances closer, with his two hind

legs, close enough to get a good

observation.

Sniff, sniff, sniff, sniff.  What is

the smell of this portal?  Nothing.

The Velociraptor grows frustrated.

How can it smell like nothing?

Sniff, sniff, sniff, sniff.  Still nothing.

Sniff, sniff, sniff, sniff.  The Raptor

lets out a loud yell.

Fujin flies out of the same pink portal,

with a second Velociraptor in his arms,

at extremely fast speeds.  The first

Velociraptor screams in fright, then

stops and looks at the Wind God.

Fujin sets the second Velociraptor

down onto the ground, and flies away.

Soon enough, he circles around

and comes to a stop on the ground.

The two Raptors walk closer to him now,

respecting him as a God.

Fujin rises up into the air, and stays

above the ground.  The two Velociraptors

are admiring him now, filled with awe.

Fujin smiles.  Now he understands what

Raiden meant about the enjoyable side

of spending time with these animals.

Fujin floats away, until he has gone back

into the pink portal.

The newer Raptor walks away.

The first Raptor squawks, several times,

to get the other Raptor’s attention.  He

nods his head in the direction of the portal.

He squawks one more time, then begins

to walk toward the portal.

The newer Raptor walks away.

SOON - at a very close distance, we see

the pink circular portal, shortly before Fujin

flies out of it, headfirst, carrying one more

Velociraptor.

Fujin flies past the one Raptor who is watching

with excitement, and the one Raptor who is

presently walking away, and drops his Raptor

to the ground before flying away.

Flying onward, then circling around, Fujin

goes back to the portal.

INT. EARTH - SOON

Fujin flies quickly through a herd of Velociraptors.

FUJIN

Come quickly!  We haven’t got much time!

. . . Hmm.  Let me see.

Fujin flies away.

FUJIN

I must look for an animal that is dead.

He flies on.

INT. EMPTY FIELDS - SOON

Fujin flies around, and, near an enormous

rock, he sees the body of a dead animal.

INT. FIELDS OF VELOCIRAPTORS - SOON

Fujin holds a stick in his hands, and at

the end of the stick is the dead animal meat.

The Velociraptors who have been ignoring

Fujin begin to smell the food.

One by one, they all begin to walk

in the direction of Fujin and the food.

Fujin is walking backward while holding

the stick to his right side.

A long line of Velociraptors has

already formed, hungry and eager

to get their food.

They follow Fujin, who floats backward

and glides through the air, then raises his

own height with strong winds, until he

flies up and over the portal.  Soon, he

lands safely on the opposite end of the portal,

and he comes to a rest.  He sets down his stick,

which he pulls out of the dead animal.

FUJIN
Sorry, animal.  But I used you to lead them

to a new home.  All they would have done

was eat you.

Fujin flies away, circling around the portal,

watching as the Velociraptors run inside

the thing.

FUJIN

A small handful is enough.  I suppose I should get

as many as I am able to, and quit when I grow bored.

Fujin flies through the air, to look for more Velociraptors.

INT. ZATERRA - SOON

18 Velociraptors roam about in the beautiful

fields and valleys of Zaterra.

FUJIN

You have found your way to the

great valleys and fields of Zaterra.

It is up to you to populate the new

world.  Over much time, you will

evolve into larger, smarter beings.

One more Raptor tries to gnash

its jaws at Fujin.  But nothing works.

FUJIN

I will give you all time to develop.

Fujin floats away, backwards, until

he has gotten back to the pink portal.

After he enters it, the portal remains

open for a few moments, then shrinks

down to nothing.  The pink after-glow

dies down in a second.

One Raptor runs at the closed portal,

shrieking with sadness.

INT. EARTH REALM - RUINED SWAMPLAND - SOON

Raiden stands in the middle of

the bubble of destruction.

No more life can live here.  The planet

Earth has become empty and desolate,

without large forms of intelligent life.

Raiden walks through the destroyed

swampland area, floating between the trees.

RAIDEN

I used to float through this area and see

many dinosaurs walking around, thriving.

Healthy.  Happy.

FUJIN

You also used to float around this area

and see nothing but trees.

RAIDEN

That was before.  Before the life grew in Earth.

Before the mortals took their place in the world.

Now . . . life has been lived, and it has been

destroyed.

FUJIN

Be truthful, Raiden.  Look at things honestly.

Your own battles against your father’s wishes

created plenty of destruction, too.

RAIDEN

I never thought I would live to see this day.

FUJIN

I understand your sadness.

RAIDEN

Do you?  They meant nothing to you.

They were just mere plants, blowing

around in the wind, for a short time.

This is the most sadness I have ever felt,

as long as I have lived, to lose them.

FUJIN

Listen.  The Elder Gods have told me

what will happen soon in Earth.

RAIDEN

And what’s that?

FUJIN

The dinosaurs are dead.  A small sample

of their population now inhabits Zaterra.

While they populate Zaterra, nothing will

happen on Earth - a grieving period will

be observed.  After Zaterra has become

as populated as Earth was, before . . .

then Earth will see the new beings.

RAIDEN

The new beings?

FUJIN

They will be smaller.  Much smaller.

More lightweight.  But they will be

more intelligent.

RAIDEN
More intelligent?  Hmm.  To think . . .

it all goes back to the sparks in the ocean.

INT. PREHISTORIC EARTH - OCEAN - MANY MILLIONS OF YEARS EARLIER

In an unpopulated world, filled only with

water, lightning strikes the ocean, repeatedly.

BACK TO the present:

INT. EARTH REALM - RUINED SWAMPLAND

RAIDEN

I don’t know.  I highly doubt I will care

about the new beings as much as I cared

about the old ones.

Raiden walks on.

FUJIN

Did you forget the days when you and I

walked around this place, and there were

no animals?  We were once the only beings

on Earth.  We had each other as company.

We never knew to be sad about a lack of

animals running about.  We were all happy.

RAIDEN

That is true.  That was a long time ago.

I remember those days, Fujin.  I always

wanted them to never end.  I always

wanted to stay in the enjoyment forever.

But so much changes over time.  Now

that the animals are all gone, I feel like

there is nothing left.  Nothing at all.

FUJIN

You can return to how things were,

before the animals.

RAIDEN

Now I feel like I no longer have

anyone to share any joy with.

FUJIN
Us Gods still have each other as company.

RAIDEN

I know.  I still just miss it all.

Raiden and Fujin look out into the world,

as the Sun rises for another day.

RAIDEN

After you have learned the light, then,

when you return to the darkness, things

are not the same, as when the darkness

was all you knew.

FUJIN

I told you.  Eventually, there will be

newer animals.  They will just be smaller.

RAIDEN

Still.  There was once a time before Earth.

A time before we worked to make it suitable

for those forms of life.  Would you not care

if you lost Earth?

FUJIN

That is true, I suppose.  But I told you.

After a long enough time, you can

travel to Zaterra, and see the populated

world of dinosaurs, if you wish.

RAIDEN
I shall.

INT. EARTH REALM - ABOVE THE OCEAN - SOON

The massive supercontinent has already

been split apart into several fragments,

which now drift away from one another

across the ocean.

Raiden flies through the air with Gaia.

GAIA

I was the most devastated of anyone

by the meteor storms.  It pained me

to see all my animals destroyed . . .

all my plant life ruined.  Countless

miles of plants were laid to waste.

Countless trees were left with not one

leaf on them.  I never knew your father,

Shinnok, to be destructive like that!

RAIDEN

I understand.  I did everything I could to

stop his movements to wipe out the world

. . . but I could not.  It’s all right, though.

The other Elder Gods will create new

beings, after the end of the grieving period.

GAIA

You know, Raiden . . . the ocean is still un-

disturbed and full of life.  Want to go there?

RAIDEN

Sure!  Let’s go.

Raiden and Gaia fly together, until they

crash down past the surface of the water.

Underwater, they continue to fly toward

the ocean’s rocky ground, finding many

kinds of fish flying quickly through the water.

A Great White Shark moves through the ocean.
Raiden and Gaia observe the shark together.

INT. EARTH REALM - OVER THE OCEAN - LATER

The sky is lit pink and purple, by the

yellow Sun, as Raiden and Gaia fly

over the ocean’s surface together.

Raiden and Gaia hold each other,

and start kissing one another.

GAIA
Us Gods still have each other.

RAIDEN

That’s right.

Raiden kisses her again.

INT. OUTER SPACE - LOOKING AT EARTH

Over Raiden’s shoulder, we see

the enormous blue and green

globe of Earth.

RAIDEN’S THOUGHTS

And to think.  Baphomet ended up

outcast into the NetherЯealm - and

so did my own father, Shinnok.

Baphomet’s image becomes visible

against the clouds.  After his image

fades away, Shinnok’s image appears.

After another moment, his image also

fades away.

RAIDEN’S THOUGHTS

If I don’t want to end up in that path,

I must not succumb to darkness myself.

Never mind what I was surrounded by.

I must try to care about animals.  I must

try to care, even about the plants.  At least

I do have Gaia.  I love her.

Raiden looks all around himself.

From a farther distance, Earth is really

pretty small in outer space.

RAIDEN’S THOUGHTS

New forms of life will rise up.

I must try to remember that.

There will be new animals.

INT. EARTH - JUNGLE - LATER

A species walks the Earth whose

body hair covers everything except

the face, hands, and feet.  Millions

of years on, this species’ descendants

will be both Man and Monkey.

For now, it just walks on peacefully

through the jungle.

INT. EARTH - SOON

Raiden and Fujin hover up high in the air and

watch as monkeys crawl across the ground.

FUJIN

What do you think of the new animals?

RAIDEN

At first, I was not so sure.  But already

I am starting to enjoy having them around.

Dozens of monkeys are running across

the ground, running wild, free, happy.

INT. EARTH - LATER

A chimpanzee walks on all fours,

but, with some struggle, it walks

on two hind legs for a short time.

After 5 seconds, it loses its balance

and goes back to all fours.

RAIDEN’S THOUGHTS

The animals will always be growing

at a slow, but steady, rate.

INT. EARTH - FIELDS - MUCH LATER

All the monkeys in the area are

walking upright, on two hind legs.

Three females are gathered together,

braiding one of the girls’ hair.

From a far distance, we see a small and crude

- but complete - civilization of monkeys.

INT. EARTH - STONEHENGE

One of the oldest structures on Earth:

Stonehenge.  For now, it is comprised of

nothing but gigantic rocks, positioned

vertically.

A Titan, a giant being made of rock, walks

slowly, to pick up a gigantic rock from the

ground, to place horizontally on top of

two vertically-positioned rocks as a bridge.

The Rock Titan stops moving, now that its work

is complete.  Stonehenge has been built.

The Rock Titan walks away.

GAIA

Aren’t they remarkable?  The Rock Titans.

RAIDEN

They’re your children.

INT. STONEHENGE - LATER

More advanced, evolved forms of

mammals are walking the Earth.

They observe the structure of

Stonehenge together.

CLOSE ON one mammal, who holds

a golden amulet in his hands - Shinnok’s

amulet.  He makes loud roaring sounds

as he holds this amulet.

The mammal is taking in a small sample

of Shinnok’s Essence - a mere drop -

and growing smarter.

MAMMAL

Waaaah!

The other mammals look at him.

That kind of noise was never

made before.

MAMMAL

Ahhh-ohhhh.

He claps his left hand to the amulet, smiling, happy.

EXT. NATURAL CAVE - DAY

Homo sapien - human being - has

finished evolving from Animal to Man.

A family of humans walks into the

entrance into a cave.  Here, they walk

into the darkness, while the Sun is still

out, and they can still see.

INT. EARTH - OUTSIDE, NEAR THE CAVES - SUNSET

The Sun is quickly setting.  People walk quickly

to get back to the caves before darkness falls

completely.  Soon enough, all the humans are

safely inside.

Animals remain outdoors.  Bugs fly.  Crickets chirp.

Roaches crawl.  Enormous mosquitoes fly through the

air.  We also hear the roaring sound of an unseen animal.

INT. ZATERRA - EXT. NATURAL CAVES - JUST THEN

“Zaterra”

Green humans walk out of the entrance to a

natural cave.  These are not the humans who

evolved from the mammals, but from the Velocirapor.

At this time, the Velociraptors, having evolved

for many millions of years, primarily walk on

two hind legs.  They wear loincloths, made from

the skins of enemy animals.  The cloths are

usually brown in color.

Four green reptilian men stand together.

Four dark blue reptilian men stand together.

Soon enough, both are engaged in a fight

between both skin colors.

Raiden and Fujin are standing near the

entrance to the caves, in Zaterra.

RAIDEN

I never thought Zaterra would look like this!

It was such a small and simple thing at first.

See how the little things grow!

FUJIN

I know.  There were only a few of them

that populated this realm, a handful.  This

species has still only begun to develop.

What do you think of them?

RAIDEN
I think they’re not very different

from the animals that they evolved from.

FUJIN

But they can control fire, to some degree.

They have learned how to make fires, and

how to put them out.  They’ve learned to

make the sounds of music.

RAIDEN

This is true.  But they are still animals.

FUJIN

And you and I are just the Wind God

and the Thunder God.

They continue to look all around the area,

to see the men that evolved from Raptors.

The brawl between skin colors is still going on.

Now done watching, the two Gods rise

up into a portal above them.

INT. EARTH - ABOVE THE CONTINENTS AND OCEANS

Raiden and Fujin descend from a portal

positioned thousands of feet up in the air.

They both descend, headfirst, toward the

ground, which slowly grows closer to them.

RAIDEN

Look!  The land has already split into many.

FUJIN

I see.  These human beings will not occupy

one single land, like the dinosaurs did - they

will occupy many different islands, separated

by the oceans.  The Elder Gods want to see

what will happen when they develop different

civilizations in different lands.

RAIDEN

Do you really believe they will be

smarter than the dinosaurs were?

FUJIN

I believe . . . these humans will have a

capacity for growth.  It will be slow.

It will take a lot of time.  But they will

grow and evolve, just as they grew from

the single-celled organism into animals of

larger size, and greater complexity.  They

will never be perfect.  But they wil always

have that capacity for growth.

RAIDEN

We will see.  I still don’t believe they will ever

mean quite as much to me as the dinosaurs did.

FUJIN

I don’t know about that.  I like the human beings better.

Fujin flies away.

RAIDEN
Hmm.

INT. EARTH - EARLY IN THE HUMAN SPECIES - DAYTIME

We stay at a CLOSE ANGLE of a monkey.

Along with humans, all monkeys are a part of the

Great Apes family of mammals, in the animal

kingdom.  One orangutan runs about happily in

the daytime, scampering across on all fours.

Many sounds of insects, birds, and many other

kinds of animals are constantly blaring their

sounds in the background.

A chimpanzee smiles, then goes back to his walk.

The small tribe of monkeys walks on, and in the

distance, they find homo sapien - human beings.  The

monkeys start to make sounds expressing discontent.

A small human being, a child wrapped

in tiger-skin cloth, runs at the monkeys,

happy and filled with glee, and the smaller

animals scamper away.

A female human, the mother, makes a

loud sound to express dissatisfaction.

The male human, the father, runs

after the children, to catch them.

CAVEMAN FATHER

Hoo hoo!  HA!  HA!

He punches his son on the arm.

CAVEMAN FATHER
BA.  BA.

CAVEMAN SON

AAAAAH!  AAAH.  AAAAH,

AAAAAAAAHH!!

The caveman boy tries to bite his father’s arm.

CAVEMAN FATHER

BAAAAAA!

He hits his son once more.

CAVEMAN FATHER

BAAA, ba ba!

He hits his son again.

CAVEMAN FATHER

Gaba?

CAVEMAN SON

Gaa.

CAVEMAN FATHER

Gok.

The father leads the son back

toward the mother.

They walk together, but suddenly

the son runs away again.

CAVEMAN MOTHER

(distraught) Yeaaaaa!

The caveman father runs after his son again.

By now, the monkeys have all scampered

away.  The caveman father runs after his son.

INT. EARTH - EARLY IN HUMAN CIVILIZATION

The Sun begins to set.

INT. EARTH - PREHISTORIC TIMES - SUNSET

Together, the father, son, and four children

watch the Sun set.

It is a magnificent sight, which has their full attention.

EXT. NATURAL CAVES - SUNRISE

The Sun slowly rises over the land again.

Men emerge from the caves,

to begin the daily hunt.

EXT. DRY, EMPTY LANDS - DAYTIME

A tribe of 6 humans, one of them a

child, walks on in the daytime heat.

2 of the 6 people are using walking sticks.

As they walk on, it becomes clear

that they must stop soon.

CUT TO - the Sun.  Blaring.  Providing

never-ending heat.

The men look away, shielding their

eyes with their hands.

They walk on, and discover the welcoming

sight of the exterior of a bunch of natural caves.

RAWA (TRIBE LEADER)
Ooh!  Ooh ooh!  Ooh!

Excitedly, he jumps up and down for a moment,

emphasing the importance of his find.  Then he

walks on, and the rest of his tribe follow him,

toward the new caves.

INT. NATURAL CAVES

Enngok, leader of the family that dwells in

one of these caves, walks outside, already angry.

Enngok walks toward Rawa.

Rawa touches his own chest a

couple times, then touches his

own face.

RAWA

“Rawa”.  May goo.

ENNGOK

“Enngok”.  Ook, ook, oot.

RAWA

MAHHH.  Gee mee ma!

ENNGOK

OWN.

RAWA

Aaah gah gah!

Outside, several other humans are gathering

closer to watch - from both different tribes.

EXT. NATURAL CAVES - SOON

A small audience of humans are jumping

up and down, hooting and hollering, as

they watch the sight of the fight.

Enngok, leader of his family that

lives in a cave, slowly circles around

his opponent, Rawa, who needs food,

water, and shelter for himself and his tribe.

Enngok starts by taunting his opponent

with an intimidating roar.

Rawa stands his ground.

The two are circling each other again,

but soon Rawa runs forward to strike

the first punch.  The fight escalates in

the blink of an eye.  Both men are trying

to kill each other.

We PAN AROUND the ring of

humans watching around the fight.

They jump up and down.  They

can’t get enough of the sight.

One person from Rawa’s tribe stops

for a moment to look at a person in

Enngok’s tribe, who is cheering for him.

Rawa’s follower swings a punch at Enngok’s

follower.  Now a separate fight is breaking out

in the audience.

BACK TO Enngok and Rawa.  Now Rawa is

losing the fight, badly.  Enngok is pummelling

him into a loss.

Enngok walks away.

Enngok’s followers, in the crowd of

spectators, are roaring with cheer and

applause as they watch Enngok walk.

Enngok takes a large rock from the ground,

and holds it in both hands.

He walks back over to Rawa.

The shadows of Enngok and Rawa stretch out

across the ground.  Enngok finishes off his opponent

with the large rock.  Rawa falls, as blood splatters

out of his body.

We slowly CIRCLE AROUND ENNGOK.

INT. STONEHENGE - LATER

Raiden, Fujin, and Izanami stand

together at Stonehenge.

RAIDEN

Well.  I certainly hope the human beings

will become more civilized than this!

IZANAMI

It will happen.  Give it time.  Remember,

they were formed from the animals.  It

will take much time to detach from them.

FUJIN

I don’t think they will ever change.

They came from animals, and always

will keep that ancestry.

IZANAMI

Nonetheless, now we see the new era

of life on Earth.  The day of the human

being has come.  Of course, remember,

Raiden: the humans are, like the rest of

the animals, mortal.  They will not live

forever.  Eventually, the day will come

for the Final Armaggeddon.

RAIDEN

Until then: I will enjoy what days I have.

Raiden flies away.

INT. BEACH - DAYTIME

CLOSE ON a fire that burns.

Small sticks of wood are positioned

together on the ground.  The fire burns

on the sticks, over the fireproof sand.

7 human beings are gathered together in a circle

around a fire, near the water of the beach.  The

people sit with their legs folded, and their hands

connected to each other.  A human circle surrounds

the fire.

The fire illuminates drawings drawn into the sand.

CUT TO a series of close-ups of these drawings.

6 stick figures - the Elder Gods.

10 smaller stick figures - the Gods and Goddesses.

A circle: Earth.

Beneath that, one more stick figure,

inside a cage: Shinnok.

The cavemen are all observing

their religious worship at once.

Lightning strikes.  Rain starts to fall.

The people get up, and start to walk away,

as the fire begins to die down on its own.

The drawings in the sand will not live long,

in the rain.  The drawings becomes wiped

out by the water.

The people run away.

Over time, civilizations develop.  Africa.  Europe.  Asia.

China becomes the biggest country on Earth, with the highest population of human beings.

In China, people laugh at Raiden when he claims to be one of the Gods.  But then he demonstrates his ability to create destructive storms.  Then, people fear and respect him.  Raiden has found his civilized band of followers in the Shaolin monks.  They know of Raiden, of Fujin, of Shinnok, and the other Elder Gods, because Raiden has told his account firsthand to mortals in China, who have written it down in scrolls.  Raiden knows that people laugh, at first, at things they don’t believe.  But the written scrolls contain a testament, as written by the hands of a monk, who wishes to atone for a history of criminal actions, of the history of the Earth.

INT. EARTH REALM - 10,000 FEET UP IN THE AIR - EVENING

Up in outer space, stars burn and twinkle.

Raiden and Fujin fly on, with the sky high

above them, for they are really 100 feet above

the ground, looking down upon the villages.

RAIDEN

I say, these humans really have come a long way.

FUJIN

Yes, the whole species has evolved from the actions

of individuals.  I see the Elder Gods’ decision to place

the humans on separate islands has led to some inter-

esting variety in their civilizations.

RAIDEN

Yes.  In Africa, they used to see us as

nothing more than angry Gods, demanding

things from them.  Every storm of rain or

wind, they attributed to our anger, our rage.

Remember?

FUJIN

Oh, I remember.  They’re not that

much more advanced now.

RAIDEN

What do you mean?

FUJIN
Look at this.  Artwork, drawn in Japan.

RAIDEN

Who are they?

FUJIN

They are us.

Raiden and Fujin examine the wall-covering

artwork that depicts them both.

In this work of Japanese Shinto, Raijin is a

large pig-like being, and Fujin is a green,

incredibly angry goblin, floating with the aid

of a white cloth.

RAIDEN

They are afraid of us.

FUJIN

Good.  Better for them to be afraid of us

than disrespectful to us.

RAIDEN

They need not see us this way.  We

are not angry goblins, destroying things

in moments of anger.  They make us

look like Shinnok.

FUJIN

I suppose that, to them, we are.

Fujin floats on.

Meanwhile, in the NetherЯealm, Shinnok is still a prisoner.  He refuses to give up.  He has a band of followers of his own, a contrast to the Shaolin Monks.  His followers are the Brothers of the Shadow.  At first, they were followers of Baphomet, master of the NetherЯealm.  But over time, Shinnok convinced them to pay their loyalty to him.  Not only do they serve Baphomet, they also make it their goal to see Shinnok freed from the NetherЯealm, and back in Earth realm.  The Brothers of the Shadow men have gained a small sample of Shinnok’s power, to become wraiths: black, fog-like beings, who can appear human at times.  In the end, Shinnok, still damned for eternity, is surrounded by many freely-traveling wraiths.

SHINNOK

I must find someone who will bring my amulet to me.

Behind him, fire erupts.

FIRE ENGULFS OUR ENTIRE VIEW.
