Script 7: SHINNOK

Script 7.  SHINNOK.  So Shinnok is back and now the story of MK4 will play out.

Long ago, Raiden and Shinnok fought during the times of the dinosaurs, as said in Script 1.  Now Quan Chi and Noob Saibot, the wraith formerly known as Sub-Zero, have helped bring Shinnok back to power.  Quan Chi is Shinnok's servant, yet he cannot enter the Fire Temple, where Shinnok's amulet is being kept (again, see Script 1), but he is able to convince Noob Saibot to enter for him.  Thus, I replace the adventure of MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero with being a similar adventure of MK Mythologies: Noob Saibot, as he goes to get Shinnok's amulet from the Fire Temple, battling and beating the Fire God in the process.  Thus, Noob Saibot has gotten the amulet back from the temple Quan Chi could not exist inside, and Quan Chi brings it back to Shinnok.  That was the errand Noob Saibot had to run in exchange for the freedom he finds as a wraith - no longer tortured in the inferno, and able to roam freely back to Earth.

Quan Chi causes Liu Kang, Sonya, Sub-Zero, Jax, and Kung Lao to fight each other, taking them all out of the picture.  Like in the cartoon show, he uses the red Gem of Tetsurri to do this.  Thus, we are led into fight scenes of good guy vs. good guy.  Liu Kang vs. Sonya.  Liu Kang vs. Sub-Zero.  Meanwhile, Raiden is trapped in a cage of bone by Shinnok . . . a new twist, yet similar to the MK4 Shinnok ending where he kills Raiden and, before that, gives him a sample of what it feels like to be trapped.

The idea is, everyone familiar from MK1, 2, and 3 are left incapacitated, with Raiden in a cage, and all the mortals laying around un-conscious, having fought each other.  So, you see, fighting is not so cool after all.  Defense against a predator is one thing.  Everyone you know laying around unconscious, having all fought each other, is the worst outcome of all - but that's the largest-scale outcome of people fighting just for the enjoyment of fighting.

Quan Chi and Shinnok have won against all the familiar warriors.

Despite these tragic losses, Wind God Fujin steps up to lead his own band of four mortals - Kai, Tanya, Jarek, and Reiko - against Shinnok.  They must all deal with Quan Chi, and his three female servants, Kia, Jataaka, and Sareena (from MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero).  Also, the NetherRealm Hound, a deleted character with artwork drawn by John Tobias, will be back.  Goro, from the game, will be replaced by his father Gorbak, from the 90's comics, and finally we will also see the Water God from MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero, as well as the Fire God, and Gaia, the Goddess of the Earth, inserted into MK4.

The idea of making Fujin the new main character is like the 3rd MK movie, MK: Devastation, which they started to make, but never finished, where Fujin would step up as guardian of Earth after Raiden became an Elder God.

Scorpion is the one that takes down Quan Chi.  Scorpion's saga comes to a resolution.

Raiden and Fujin fight Shinnok, who is defeated again and returned to the NetherЯealm.

7 scripts.  That much would never happen in theaters.  But a comic book?  That would be great.

Mortal Kombat X, Part VII: Shinnok.

After the production logos play,

FIRE ENGULFS OUR VISION.

INT. NETHERREALM

Fire is indeed everywhere in the NetherRealm.

We very slowly FLY THROUGH the inferno’s

terrain, until we ARRIVE AT one prisoner

in particular.  Shinnok.

SHINNOK’S VOICE

I am the Elder God, Shinnok, one of the 7 Elder Gods

who created the Universe.  For millions of years, I have

suffered here, in the bowels of the NetherRealm, thanks

to the actions of my own son, Thunder God Raiden.

We see quick blue FLASHBACK IMAGES of the past.

Raiden flies at Shinnok, battling his giant father.

The other 6 Elder Gods surround Shinnok.

An amulet is used to contain his Essence.

SHINNOK’S VOICE

All these years, my immortal Essence has never been

destroyed.  It has instead been contained in an amulet.

I need to get this amulet back into my hands.  But how?

A FLASHBACK IMAGE of Shao Kahn.

SHINNOK’S VOICE

Although my first-born son, Raiden, had failed me,

I believed that my second son, Shao Kahn, would live

up to his dark destiny.  Instead he wanted everything

for himself.  His largest ambition was to be the mere

ruler of civilizations.  So I realized that I would have

to find another to find my amulet for me.

Now we commence full-color FLASHBACK

IMAGES to the first of ten Mortal Kombat tournaments.

Kung Lao exchanges punches and blows with Rain.

SHINNOK’S VOICE

All these years, I have been trapped in the NetherRealm.

All that matters to me is getting that amulet into my hands.

If Shao Kahn won’t do it, then I must find a mortal in the

Earth realm that will.

From his position in Hell, Shinnok is looking out

into psychic images that show him the 10th Earth

tournament, Liu Kang fighting Goro in Goro’s lair.

SHINNOK’S VOICE

The tournaments and their outcomes mean nothing to me.

But I kept my eye on them anyway, as I found them amusing.

If I were to take any one side over the other, it would be

Shao Kahn’s side, against Earth.  There was one reason

I really kept my eye on the tournaments.  They would show

me who was qualified.  Who was worthy to find my amulet.

Sub-Zero fights Scorpion at the 10th tournament.

Shinnok watches, his eyes darting left, right.  Even something

as small as an ant can be fascinating to watch.

Sub-Zero and Scorpion continue to exchange blows,

and Scorpion quickly gains the upper hand in their fight.

SHINNOK’S VOICE

I found one who was worthy to serve me.

In the mortals’ fight, Sub-Zero gets killed by Scorpion.

Shinnok watches on, with interest.

Sub-Zero dies, his body burned by Scorpion’s Hellfire,

belched from his mouth.

SHINNOK

I am the Elder God, Shinnok.  I am one of the 7

Elder Gods.  Make no mistake: I am one of the 7

Creators of All Things.  Without me, these humans

would not even exist.

FUJIN

Lies!  It was after you were banished to the NetherЯealm

that the OTHER Elder Gods created the humans.

SHINNOK

The animals, the apes, gained a higher intelligence

because they found my amulet.  And did you forget

what these humans were like, before that?

Fujin falls silent.

SHINNOK
Additionally, the other Elders decided to create

humans, after I decided to wipe out the dinosaurs.

So, you see, it really is because of me that this

world, as you two know it, exists.

RAIDEN

How did you get free from the NetherЯealm??

SHINNOK

I found a warrior worthy of finding my amulet,

to be delivered to me.

Quan Chi and Noob Saibot are by Shinnok’s side.

QUAN CHI

Sub-Zero.  I’m glad I was able to convert you

to the ways of the Brothers of the Shadow.

NOOB SAIBOT

I would rather walk the Earth as a wraith

than to remain in the inferno as its prisoner.

Kia, Jataaka, and Sareena show up.

Also, the NetherЯealm Hound.

The four wraiths, and one hound,

represent the NetherЯealm.

LIU KANG

I don’t understand.  Three times,

Earth has been saved from Outworld.

Three times!  We have always prevailed.

What could it possibly be now?

RAIDEN

Indeed, Shao Kahn is down, and the threat

that he poses is no more.  But now we face

his father: Shinnok.

LIU KANG

His father?  Already, he must be a scumbag.

RAIDEN

Hey, now!  . . . He’s also my father.

LIU KANG

He . . . is?

RAIDEN

All this time, since the dawn of your species,

my father, Shinnok, has remained in exile in

the NetherЯealm, since he is immortal, and

will never die.  Now, somehow, he has gotten

back out.

LIU KANG

How?

RAIDEN

When Shinnok was banished to the NetherRealm,

almost all of his Essence - the Essence of an Elder

God - was contained in an amulet.  This was how

he was able to remain as a prisoner in the inferno.

Someone was able to retrieve this amulet for him.

LIU KANG

Who?

RAIDEN

Sub-Zero.

LIU KANG

. . . What?  I thought he fought for Earth.

RAIDEN

He did.  But Quan Chi was able to convince

him to work for Shinnok.  Now my father is free.

QUAN CHI

I once turned Sub-Zero and Scorpion against

each other.  I know exactly what I’m doing here.

Step One: we incapacitate Raiden.

Shinnok’s body is glowing with yellow energy.

He unleashes two long laser light beams from

his hands, which fly through the air and form

a large yellow cage all around Raiden.

Within seconds, the yellow cools down, and

starts to transform into a cage made of bone.

RAIDEN
You can’t keep a Thunder God trapped in a cage!

SHINNOK

That’s it.  Just for that . . . now you lose

what comfort I was letting you have.

Shinnok raises both hands.

The cage made of bone immediately shrinks.

Raiden is left with no space in which to move.

SHINNOK

Now you see how far you get,

questioning my authority!

RAIDEN

Please.  Please, Father - I urge you one last time.

SHINNOK

Don’t you try that “Please, Father” on me.

I was the original Creator of things, before

you even existed.

RAIDEN

I . . . gave the spark of life in the oceans.

I . . . saw beautiful forms of life grow.

SHINNOK

You saw plants grow.  Nothing more than plants.

RAIDEN

Even plants are beautiful.

I want you to see this -

to understand this -

SHINNOK

I understand far more than you do, Raiden.

You may have sparked the ocean, but neither

that ocean, nor your thunder, would be here

if it weren’t for my actions.

RAIDEN

Fine.  So, please!  Please, stop and see the

beauty of the things you created!  Even the

small things.  The insects, the bugs, the grass-

hoppers.  They are all such awesome things.

SHINNOK

There also comes a time to wipe everything

out.  It happened long ago.  I killed off the

dinosaurs.  And I will bring that day upon

the Earth again.

RAIDEN

You can’t.  The people . . .!

SHINNOK

. . . will be wiped out.  Earth will become empty.

RAIDEN
And then what?  Then you own Earth?

SHINNOK

Then I simply return this oversized,

over-stretched Universe back into

the small, compact form it once had.

The entire Universe will become small

again, like it was in the beginning.

The Essence of all the Gods and Goddesses

will be absorbed back into us Elder Gods,

and we will grow larger as a result.  Then,

us 7 Elder Gods will join back together.

We will become the One Being.

The story of the Universe will be over.

RAIDEN

Not yet.  It’s not Earth’s time yet!

SHINNOK

You are not the decider of things.

RAIDEN

I am the protector of Earth realm!

SHINNOK

Here we are again.  This is repetitive.  Foolish.

Raiden, you are too controlled by your emotions.

QUAN CHI

Raiden, God of Thunder, is left incapacitated.

Earth’s mortals will be left on their own now.

NOOB SAIBOT

What next?

QUAN CHI

Next, we locate those mortals, and,

without their bodyguard Raiden,

they will succumb to my ways.

Quan Chi holds in his hands a red gem.

NOOB SAIBOT

What’s that?

QUAN CHI

The Gem of Tetsurri.  Actually a

crystalized heart, the heart of an

evil, murderous king.  It may not

work on a wraith, like you . . . but

all of Earth’s mortals will find their

own inner darkness brought out to

the surface.

NOOB SAIBOT

Where are the mortals?

QUAN CHI

In several different places.  First, we

must gather them all together, into one

area, somehow.  Then, we unleash this

gem upon them.

NOOB SAIBOT

This one red gem is all it takes to

stop Earth’s mortals?

QUAN CHI

You will see.  Their own inner darkness

is all it takes to stop Earth’s mortals.

So the red gem is unleashed upon the mortals.

Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Sonya, Jax, and Sub-Zero II

are all affected at once.  A red glow develops in

their eyes.

More to the point, Raiden is left incapacitated,

and now the mortals must find their own way

to stop Shinnok.  So they decide to remain together

as a group of five, finding some way to stop Shinnok.

Eventually, they are fighting each other.

Liu Kang vs. Sonya.

Liu Kang vs. Jax.

Liu Kang vs. Sub-Zero.

Sonya vs. Jax.

Liu Kang vs. Kung Lao.

Quan Chi is laughing.  Laughing.

QUAN CHI

Yes.  Fight!  Fight!

All the mortals are left fighting each other.

Shinnok roams free.  Raiden is trapped in a cage,

and the mortals are all fighting each other until

none will be left.

Indeed, eventually, everyone is unconscious.

Not quite dead, but covered in blood.

Quan Chi walks around and examines the scene.

QUAN CHI

Yes.  Yes!  I was able to get them angry.

Angry enough to hit each other.  Angry

enough to develop a taste for rage and

violence.  Now look!  Look at all the blood!

Look at all the unconscious bodies!  Look

at all the wonderful fighting!

Kia, Jataaka, and Sareena stand together.

QUAN CHI

The NetherЯealm now has its way.

Shinnok roams free.

NOOB SAIBOT

Baphomet still owns the NetherЯealm.

Baphomet is still in charge, down there.

QUAN CHI

Nonsense!  Baphomet is a lower God,

a former God of Darkness.  Shinnok is

an Elder God.  Now that he has his

Essence back, Shinnok’s authority

overrules the entire NetherRealm, and

Baphomet as well.  He also roams free

in Earth.

Back to the mortals.  All unconscious.

Raiden can see it happening, but he

can’t stop it.  But he can contact Fujin.

Fujin, God of Wind, is now left alone

to deal with Shinnok.

We commence a TWO-WAY SPLIT-SCREEN

VIEW between Raiden, left, and Fujin, right.

FUJIN
You expect me to deal with Shinnok alone?

You couldn’t take him on your own, and you

expect me to fare better?

RAIDEN

Lead the mortals.  Bring them back to reason.

Fujin thinks about it.

Fujin gathers his own band of mortals.

Kai.

Tanya.

Jarek.

Reiko.

These four are the new team, led by Fujin,

to stop Shinnok.

First, before they get to Shinnok, they must

deal with his own team of guardians.

Kia, Jataaka, Sareena, Noob Saibot,

and the NetherЯealm Hound.

The wraiths and hound all vanish in

a puff of black smoke.

A new figure walks into the arena.

A shadowy silhouette with four arms.

TANYA

Goro . . .?

FUJIN

Not Goro.

The four-armed figure walks closer.

FUJIN
Goro’s father.

GORBAK

Who wants to get broken first?

Tanya fights Gorbak, and wins, killing him.

FUJIN
You killed Goro’s father.

TANYA

Without ruining my mascara.

Tanya rises up, and walks away.

From three parts of Goro’s lair,

three female wraiths enter the scene.

Kia, Jataaka, and Sareena.

JAREK

What’s the story on you broads?  You sisters?

JATAAKA

No.  But we might as well be.

KIA

We knew each other for years, many years,

before we died and went to the NetherЯealm.

JAREK

How did you die?

KIA
Sacrificed ourselves.

JAREK

. . . What?

KIA

We all killed ourselves.  Offered ourselves

to the NetherЯealm.  Once there, we offered

our loyalties to the Brothers of the Shadow

. . . the wraiths.

KAI

We all must work together to banish

Shinnok back to the NetherЯealm.

KIA

That’s it.  You must die.  That will be

the first step toward bringing you in

to us wraiths.

Kia approaches Kai.  She throws

shurikens at him.

Kai dodges down, avoiding the throwing stars.

Jarek fights Jataaka.

JAREK

What’s good, baby, you need a new man?

JATAAKA
Yeah.  I need a new man . . . to kill.

JAREK

Come on, baby!

Jataaka twirls her fighting staff around.

JATAAKA

Come at me!

The two fight.

Reiko fights Sareena.

Reiko wins.

SAREENA

What are you?

REIKO
A clone.

So all three wraiths, plus Gorbak, are down.

Noob Saibot still stands.

His brother, the second Sub-Zero, confronts him.

SUB-ZERO

How could you pledge your loyalty

to the NetherЯealm?

NOOB SAIBOT

I had no other choice.  I was in the NetherЯealm

already, either way, as a prisoner.  I merely changed

myself from a prisoner to a wraith.  Then, at least,

I could have some contact with the Earth.

SUB-ZERO

But the price to pay was your loyalty to Shinnok.

NOOB SAIBOT

It was a small price to pay, for me.

Scorpion realizes Quan Chi is guilty.

SCORPION

I killed Sub-Zero, and yet I did not pass on

to the afterlife.  Why is that?

QUAN CHI

Calm down, Scorpion.  I can’t understand

a word you’re saying when you’re in such a

rage.  Just . . . slow down, and try to stay calm.

SCORPION

Why did killing Sub-Zero do nothing

to bring me to the afterlife?

QUAN CHI

I’m not listening to you when you get like this.

SCORPION

Because Sub-Zero was not the killer of my

family - that’s why.

QUAN CHI

Lies!  Are you going to tell me you believe

these lies?  Let me guess.  Who was it that

told you this?  Sub-Zero?

SCORPION

You killed my family.  You tried to dismantle

my entire clan.  You falsely accused Sub-Zero

of doing all these things.  You are the one

that will pay.

QUAN CHI

Will you please stop this madness!  It’s clear to me

that Sub-Zero is clouding your mind.

SCORPION

Sub-Zero died.

QUAN CHI

His brother still walks the Earth.

There is still a Sub-Zero.

SCORPION

His brother is not responsible for

my family’s death either.

QUAN CHI

You don’t know that.

SCORPION

No?  What I do know is that you hired

both the Shirai Ryu, and the Lin Kuei,

both to assassinate each other, at the same

time, same day, without telling each side

about the other.  What I do know is that

the Lin Kuei were ordered to come after my

family because of your decision to hire them,

and because of the lies that you told them.

You, Quan Chi, will burn forever.

QUAN CHI

Listen.  You’ve got to listen to me.

If you kill the smaller Sub-Zero,

you will immediately find peace

in the afterlife.  Your unsettled

business - it will be resolved in seconds.

SCORPION

I will find peace by getting rid of you.

Scorpion fights Quan Chi with all the rage

that he has held in him since he first died.

Quan Chi takes a brutal assault from

Scorpion, but he still stands, alive.

QUAN CHI

Killing me isn’t going to solve anything.

It would just make things worse.

SCORPION

Stop trying to convince me not to attack you,

Quan Chi.  Now that I know you are responsible

for their deaths, nothing will stop me from killing you.

QUAN CHI

Then what?  Then I would go to the NetherЯealm.

SCORPION

Yes.  But as a prisoner.  A man trapped in

the inferno, just like your master, Shinnok.

I’ve been there.  It’s not pleasant.

QUAN CHI

If you think that threatening me . . .

threatening my life . . . is going to fix

your problems, then you’re clearly

mentally ill, and need help.

Scorpion punches Quan Chi twice more.

SCORPION

Your whores are slain.  Your servants

are all slain.  Give it up, Quan Chi!

And while we’re at it - let go of Shinnok’s

amulet.  You will never have his power.

QUAN CHI

I don’t know what you’re talking about!

You’re so paranoid.

SCORPION

Don’t you have his amulet on you?

QUAN CHI

Absolutely not!  I was afraid of this.  Afraid

you might one day snap and attack me.

Quan Chi pulls from nowhere a large

object: a whistle.  He blows into it.

Fwah-wah-wuuuummm! comes the

loud humming sound of the whistle.

SCORPION

That whistle . . .

QUAN CHI

The sound of this whistle is

invisible to all humans.

SCORPION

I could hear it.  Its frequency is more meant for dogs.

QUAN CHI
Exactly.

An enormous hound slowly steps into

Goro’s Lair.  It is like no dog or hound

that has ever lived in Earth before.

The NetherЯealm Hound.

Its head is enormous, capable of swallowing

a human head whole.  Its two rows of teeth

are as bad as a shark's.  The brown hound

is constantly drooling from its mouth.

The hound turns its head to the left,

then to the right, growling the whole

way.  It belches a small gust of fire.

QUAN CHI

I'm sorry, Scorpion, but you've left me

no other choice, but to defend myself.

SCORPION
How did you summon the Hound here?

Quan Chi, grinning, holds up Shinnok’s

golden amulet.  The perfectly-clean

object shines brightly, even in the darkness.

Scorpion reaches out to grab it from him.

QUAN CHI

Ah ah ah!  I knew you would want to

grab my amulet and have it for yourself.

You won’t be doing that, I’m afraid.

SCORPION

Right.  I forgot.  Every breath you live

is to serve your master, Shinnok!

QUAN CHI

Wrong again.  I have used enough people

to do my bidding.  Now I have the amulet

of an Elder God . . . at my own disposal.

So I, Quan Chi, am the most powerful!

SCORPION

You’ll die before you become the King!

Scorpion runs at Quan Chi.

Quickly, he transforms his run into

a Hellfire kick: he slides forward,

his feet burning with fire, then

backflips while kicking Quan Chi

backward.  The gothic sorcerer

is knocked away.

Quan Chi rises back to his feet.  He uses

both hands to manipulate green energy.

He throws a ball of green energy,

quickly taking the shape of a skull,

at Scorpion.

The green skull bites into Scorpion’s

body, and twists its head left and

right, but after a few seconds the

green energy dissipates.

Quan Chi throws another

green skull at Scorpion,

followed by a third.

Scorpion leaps away, punching the air

away from Quan Chi, as he vanishes

from sight in a puff of fire.

Quan Chi runs after him, then gets

struck in the back by Scorpion,

who has teleported a short distance.

SCORPION

Now you will feel the pain of every

innocent life you hurt.

QUAN CHI

You don’t know what you’re talking about!

I didn’t do that.  Sub-Zero did!

SCORPION

Lies will not save you this time, sorcerer.

QUAN CHI

Wait.  Wait!  It was Sub-Zero that killed you, too.

SCORPION

Yes.  But, like you said yourself.  Self-defense.

QUAN CHI

Sub-Zero murdered you himself!

SCORPION

No.  I was led, by you, to attack him.

He only fought me in self-defense.

I have forgiven him.

QUAN CHI
What??

Noob Saibot steps closer to Scorpion,

choosing his side over Quan Chi’s.

SCORPION

It wasn’t his fault.  He didn’t know what was

happening.  He defended himself from an attacker.

QUAN CHI

Noob Saibot!  This man killed you, at the

tournament!  He murdered you gladly!

NOOB SAIBOT

He thought I was guilty.  He didn’t know

what really happened.  I forgive him, too.

Noob Saibot and Scorpion stand

side-by-side, as allies.

SCORPION

We have both forgiven each other.

NOOB SAIBOT

Yet neither of us has forgiven you.

Scorpion quickly ropes Quan Chi,

with ordinary Earthly rope.

Then he sets the rope on fire.

Quan Chi’s body is now burning.

SCORPION

Now think about the lives you took!

A quick FLASH of an image - Scorpion’s wife.

Quan Chi screams as the fire consumes him.

A FLASH of an image - his son.

Another image - five men in the Shirai Ryu

clan laying down on the ground, dead.

SCORPION

Now you will burn to death,

and justice will be served.

Quan Chi burns to death.

The fire is put out.

Quan Chi’s body is badly burned,

and he died with a terrified expression

on his face.

Scorpion leans down to his knees,

getting close to Quan Chi.

SCORPION

Fatality.

He uses his fingers to close Quan Chi’s eyelids.

Scorpion stands up.  He takes a step back.

SCORPION

There.  I have killed the man who

killed my family and clan.

Scorpion takes off his mask.

Underneath, his flesh is rotten,

and almost all that is left of him is bone.

SCORPION

Finally.  It is done.

NOOB SAIBOT

Yes.  And the feud between you and I

that began with Quan Chi is over.

SCORPION

Now I may pass on to the afterlife.

I’ve spent so much time trying to

reach this moment . . . I never really

thought about what it would feel like

to actually get here.

White, heavenly light begins to rain

down upon the area from above.

SCORPION

My wife . . . my child . . . I will be

joining them again in the heavens.

Scorpion floats up, toward the sky.

Before long, he is engulfed completely

by the white light.

Finally, the white light disappears, becoming

the brightest of all just before the end.

Sub-Zero, looking away from the light,

turns his head back.

Scorpion’s dead body is still

laying on the ground.

SUB-ZERO

Scorpion’s body.  It’s still here.

NOOB SAIBOT

But his soul has moved on.

He has finally reached the heavens.

SUB-ZERO

Good for him.  Look.  Quan Chi -

his body is still here, too.

NOOB SAIBOT

He’s in the NetherЯealm.

SUB-ZERO

So this is how it ends.  Us two brothers

end up in the Earth.

NOOB SAIBOT

No.  My path has already been chosen.

I ended up in the NetherRealm when I died.

Not because of Quan Chi.  Not because of

Scorpion.  Because of my own choices.

My own life of servitude to the Lin Kuei.

That’s what led me here.

SUB-ZERO

Come on, brother.  I’m sure you can

walk your way back into the light.

NOOB SAIBOT

No - it’s too late for me.  I will be back in the

inferno before long.  But you, brother . . .

you, I pray, never end up where I am, a wraith.

You, I pray, never end up forced to make such

a choice, to escape the inferno.  There’s one way

out of the inferno.  Don’t be a bad person.

I knew this, all my life.  I always knew it.

But I made my choices.  I chose to serve

the Lin Kuei.  Brother . . . please . . .

stop your involvement with the clan.

Stop your involvement with the Lin Kuei.

Choose your own path.  But choose one

that doesn’t lead to the NetherRealm.

Noob Saibot floats away.

His body disappears into black smog.

Sub-Zero is now left alone.  Quan Chi,

Scorpion, and Noob Saibot are all gone.

Sub-Zero looks at Quan Chi’s dead body again.

SOON - Sub-Zero retrieves from Quan Chi’s

possession the red Gem of Tetsurri.

The red gem glows radiantly.  The hum

it gives off is loud.  Sub-Zero’s eyes

glow red again.

Sub-Zero uses both hands to manipulate

blue energy.

Soon enough, he throws an iceball at the red gem.

Sub-Zero takes off his mask.  The Chinese

assassin, whose red scar is becoming mostly

blue, scowls as he approaches the red gem

on the ground.

SMASH - Sub-Zero breaks the red gem with his foot.

SUB-ZERO

Good-bye, Quan Chi.  And say good-bye

to the Gem of Tetsurri.

SOON - Sub-Zero retrieves an amulet

from Quan Chi’s possession.

SUB-ZERO

What the . . .?

Shinnok finds a way to take the amulet

from the younger Sub-Zero.

SHINNOK

Thanks to you, Sub-Zero, now I have

my amulet, and nobody can try to

usurp my power anymore.

SUB-ZERO

Listen, Shinnok.  Us Earth mortals -

we stopped Quan Chi.  We stopped Kia,

Jataaka, Sareena, the NetherRealm

Hound, Gorbak . . . Noob Saibot.

We will stop you, too.

SHINNOK

You will do no such thing!  I am the one

most powerful being of all, between us.

The only thing greater than myself is the

total form of the One Being.  You may

have stopped all my servants, but I am

more powerful than all of them put together!

Shinnok blasts a yellow laser at Raiden.

Raiden’s body convulses as it is hit.

SHINNOK

You cannot die.  But you can feel pain!

SHINNOK

I spent a lot of time away, in the NetherRealm.

I’m glad to have free reign again.  But now even

this bores me.  I will do away with the entire

realm of Earth, just as I did before.  Only this

time . . . I’ll finish the job, and leave nothing left.

Fujin arrives with his four warriors.

FUJIN

These four mortals took down your four

servants, Kia, Jataaka, Sareena, and Gorbak.

Noob Saibot’s business is done; he has left.

Quan Chi has been killed by Scorpion.

That leaves only you left, Shinnok.  You

may have found a way to incapacitate Raiden.

But he is not the only God who can stop you.

Fujin flies at Shinnok.

In a blink of yellow energy, Shinnok is gone.

SHINNOK

Fool!

He blinks to reappear on the opposite side of Fujin.

SHINNOK

As I said earlier.  I am an Elder God.

You may have eliminated a bunch of

mortals, but you have not eliminated me!

Shinnok raises both hands, and summons

two enormous hands of bone to clap around

Fujin.

SHINNOK

Now.  Shall you go into a bone cage, too?

Or shall I let you keep up your pathetic,

yet somewhat amusing, attempts to stop me?

Fujin holds up the white Bag of Storms,

reaches into it, and throws a storm at Shinnok.

Many clouds, moving quickly through the air,

generating rainfall, fly in Shinnok’s direction.

Quickly, he is bombarded with the blast of an

entire storm, all at once.

SHINNOK

An entire storm?  Clever.  But it

will not be enough.

Shinnok levitates toward Fujin,

without moving his legs, and then

grabs him by the sides, to throw

him far away.

Fujin flies away, but he uses the Bag

of Storms as a parachute, and he manages

to take control of his fall.  He begins to

return slowly toward Shinnok.

SHINNOK

Fool!  You’re forgetting one thing, Fujin.

Anything you can do, I can do equally!

Shinnok throws, from no bag at all,

a storm, a series of clouds that spread

across the air, generating rain, intense

winds, and thunder and lightning.

SHINNOK

Let’s see how you like the feeling

of a storm of wind AND lightning!

Fujin is struck by wind-accelerated rain,

and yellow lightning, which strikes him

directly in the chest.  Fujin flies back, away.

SHINNOK
Haaaaa ha ha ha ha!  It’s funny how many

people think they will stop me.  Does anyone

else want to try?

AEGAEN

I do, you piece of garbage!

Shinnok spins around and kicks the

Water God, Aegaen, in his legs.

Aegaen aims both hands at Shinnok

and unleashes the creation of an ocean

upon him: a barrage of water.

SHINNOK

Hmph.  Take this little trick

I saw from Fujin!

Shinnok raises both hands, and creates an

upward gust of wind underneath Aegaen.

SHINNOK

See?  I can do all the things the rest

of you can do.

AEGAEN

Except to care for life.

Aegaen, while suspended in the air,

lays on his side and fires another blast

of water upon Shinnok.

SHINNOK

I’m starting to wonder just how many

of you Gods are going to turn out to be

so weak.

AEGAEN

We like this world, Earth.

We don’t want to see it wiped

out.  Not this time.

The Water God fails to stop him.

The Fire God fails to stop Shinnok.

Gaia fails to stop him.

The Rock Titan almost succeeds in stopping him, but doesn’t.

Fujin, Aegaen, Gaia, and Hephaestus

come to Raiden’s aid, to free him from

the bone cage.

RAIDEN

The bone cage . . . it was made by an Elder God.

AEGAEN

Well, we are four smaller Gods.  We

should be able to disconnect this cage.

At last, they free Raiden.

Raiden gets to his mortals.  They are badly

bruised.  Bleeding.  Raiden is deeply upset.

Liu Kang.  Kung Lao.  Sonya.  Jax.

All laying on the ground.

RAIDEN

I’m afraid Shinnok has won.  The Earth

mortals have all succumbed to anger,

and rage, and fighting.  Now nobody is left.

FUJIN

That’s why I raised a new band of mortals

to stop Shinnok’s servants.  They were

successful in that.

RAIDEN

But my mortals are gone.

FUJIN

They’re not gone - they’re just unconscious

and injured.  The red gem was destroyed.

RAIDEN
By who?

FUJIN

By Sub-Zero - the younger brother of the man

who fought in the final Mortal Kombat tournament.

He froze the gem, and shattered it himself.

RAIDEN

Sub-Zero destroyed the gem?

. . . Then there is hope for them after all!

When they awaken, their rage will be gone.

They are injured - but they can heal.

Raiden looks at their bodies.

RAIDEN
However, we have no time.  Shinnok

owns all the realms.

Finally, the Earth mortals wake up again.

The rage is gone.

So they work together to stop Shinnok.

LIU KANG
Hey, Shinnok.

Shinnok turns to look at Liu Kang.

LIU KANG

Instead of trying to get us Earth mortals

out of the picture . . . how about we take

you out of the picture instead.

SHINNOK

Children, children.  Stop believing you

can thwart me.  Instead, accept the end

of all things.

LIU KANG

It will not be the end of all things.

We’ll fight you to our last man.

Hell, we’ve done this so much at this

point, we’ve got nothing else to live for.

So go ahead, Shinnok.  Intimidate us.

But us mortals will win.

SHINNOK

I am so sick and tired of hearing the

whining of you children.  The five ants

do not overcome the hand that wipes

them away.  I destroyed the dinosaurs,

and I will bring the end upon all the realms,

one at a time, until there are none left.

I will remove the atmospheres of the

planets, and make them dark and lifeless

again - the way they were before the

terrain-forming.

Raiden fights Shinnok.

The mortals fight Shinnok.

Johnny Cage is resurrected from the dead somehow.

The mortals win.

Shinnok is down.

Shinnok is banished to the NetherRealm again.

At last, he is safely trapped in the inferno, with

his Essence removed from him.

Raiden approaches his band of mortals.

RAIDEN

You’ve done it.  You’ve all done wonderfully.

When I was incapacitated, you all pulled through.

Liu Kang.  Sonya.  Jax.  Kung Lao.  I am proud

of you four adventurers.

LIU KANG

We couldn’t have gotten this far without

our teacher, Raiden.  I remember, now . . .

when I first met you, I was just a baby,

compared to what I am now.  I’ve been

through so many things since the tournament.

Outworld.  The merging of the Earth.

Now Shinnok.  Now, I see it.  Now my

journey is complete.  There could be

nothing left to do after that.

SONYA

Your journey is complete?

LIU KANG

Yes.  Everything I ever trained for,

my whole life.  Everything I ever

imagined about the important future.

Now I’ve done everything I was ever

meant to do in my lifetime.

JOHNNY CAGE

I can’t believe I’m back from the dead.

Shinnok did that for me??

LIU KANG

Shinnok has more power than any

living, conscious being should ever have.

JOHNNY CAGE

Yeah, well, not anymore, he doesn’t.

He’s in jail.  Right?

LIU KANG

The NetherRealm.

JOHNNY CAGE

Yeah.  Same thing.

LIU KANG

I bet he’s side-by-side there,

with his son, Shao Kahn.

Sub-Zero II shows up again.

LIU KANG

Sub-Zero.  You destroyed the gem.

We all owe you our lives.

SUB-ZERO II

You don’t owe me anything.  If anything,
I should be the ones protecting you for

the rest of your time, now that I’ve

smashed the gem.

LIU KANG

Heh.

JOHNNY CAGE

So now what?

LIU KANG

Now what?  Now we just go back to . . . our lives.

JOHNNY CAGE

Now that we’ve saved the world, we just

. . . go back to doing nothing?

LIU KANG

We go back to living our lives.  Now I

think we’ll all appreciate what we have

in the world a little more.

LIU KANG

Kitana?

KITANA

Liu Kang.  Thanks to your efforts,

Edenia and Outworld have become

separated, and the repair process

has begun.  I could never repay you.

LIU KANG

Oh, Kitana.

KITANA

I must return to Edenia, and resume

my duties there as its princess.

LIU KANG

I . . . I understand.  Kitana . . . that

means I would never see you again.

The two are silent for a second.

KITANA

That is not true.  Come with me.

LIU KANG

Come with you where?

KITANA

To Edenia.  To the restored kingdom.

LIU KANG

Yeah?

INT. EDENIA - SOON

Edenia’s buildings are still wrecked,

as they’ve been for thousands of years,

but now the repair process has begun.

Now the beautiful blue sky of Edenia

is back.  Now the Sunlight is back.

Now the people are happy again.

Liu Kang and Kitana walk into

the entrance to a town in Edenia.

LIU KANG

What happened to your . . . sister?

KITANA
Mileena?  She was formerly serving

as the Princess of Outworld.  I would

guess she’s going back there.

LIU KANG

I thought there is no more

Outworld anymore - anywhere.

KITANA

That’s not true.  Outworld still exists.

It’s just separate from the other 10

realms.  It’s gone back to what it was

at first - dark, empty.  Nothing.

LIU KANG

We must make sure Edenia stays

at this perfect state of peace.  We

must make sure nothing can ever

happen again.

KITANA
You mean, you’re willing to stay here?

To live here?

LIU KANG

Of course!  I’ll gladly spend

the rest of my life here!

KITANA

Oh, Liu Kang!  I feel like . . . like

we’re in the happy ending of a

fairy tale!

LIU KANG

We are.

The two hold each other again, and start kissing.

LIU KANG

And we will live happily.  Ever.  After.

PULL BACK, to a diagonal, almost-overhead

angle, and continue PULLING BACK to reveal

Liu Kang and Princess Kitana kissing, as they

remain in front of the entrance to a town in Edenia.

Three men are working together to hang up

the repaired sign that reads “PEACE VILLAGE -

NORTH ENTRANCE”.

Dozens of people, and a few bears,

walk throughout Edenia.

THE END.

ROLL CREDITS.
